Kien is kind of like Uncle in "When My Name was Keoko", because Uncle pretended that he was a chunilpa, someone who favors the Japanese. Uncle acted very nicely to the Japanese customers so that no one would suspect that he was in the resistance group. He did not want to be caught so he just pretended that he liked the Japanese people in Korea. Uncle also was very quiet and not friendly to the Japanese customers because he didnt like them. But once he joined the resistence movement, he had to pretend to like them. He probably hated to be so kind and friendly to them.
anyway~ nice blog post! =D
Hey~
I’m reading “So Far From the Bamboo Grove.”
The setting is so different. This story is first takes place in Northern part of Korea, but it moves around a lot! It gets confusing sometimes though.. Well its fun~ Yoko is the main character and she is trying to move back to Japan. After the war, the Anti-Japanese Korean Communist is searching for Japanese so their family is running away. Well, the books are both escaping lol. Well, it seems interesting! Have fun reading it!
hmmm... irony it is
